Crossroads Safehouse

Crossroads serves women, men, and children throughout Northern Colorado and beyond. In 2009 Crossroads Safehouse sheltered 436 women and children for a total of 8,553 nights. Our transitional housing program sheltered 46 clients for an additional 16,790 nights. Nearly 1,000 men, women and children received individual and group advocacy and another 4,086 were reached through educational presentations.

Our clients come from myriad backgrounds, and each of their situations is as unique as each individual. With the help of the Safehouse staff, each client is empowered to go on to live an independent, violence-free life.

One woman and her infant fled their apartment in Northern Colorado following an incident in which her husband violently attacked her and attempted to kill her. She picked up her baby and walked to a gas station to call 911. The police directed them to Crossroads, where they were able to find shelter and safety.

To escape her abuser, another Crossroads client walked all night from an ICU ward in South Denver to Fort Collins wearing only slippers and the clothes she had worn in the hospital. Her friend directed her to Crossroads, and she was able to begin the process of healing and rebuilding her life in the Safehouse and continues that process in our transitional housing.

For many of the hundreds of adults and children who annually flee imminent danger to come to Crossroads, it is a life or death situation; however, while not all cases may be this severe or life-threatening, Crossroads encourages individuals experiencing all forms of abuse to seek help through our Outreach Center or toll-free line.
