Volunteers are the key to our success!

Volunteer of the Month:

Our July Volunteers of the Month are Susan and Jim Berry! Susan and Jim are two of our newest and very dedicated volunteers who are responsible for one of the most important volunteer responsibilities at Crossroads: the food bank. Rarely is it easy to meet the requests of one family, much less those of 14 residents and their children. Susan and Jim always surprise everyone with their thoughtful and delicious food bank finds! Their kindness and reliability however, are no surprise. They are also always the first to offer their services for special events and running any kind of errand we come up with! Thanks so much to Susan and Jim for their amazing commitment to Crossroads!

Volunteers are a vital part of every program offered by Crossroads Safehouse. We have positions available for both direct service and non-direct service volunteers.

Direct Service Volunteers
Direct service volunteers are individuals assisting with programs involving direct client advocacy. The volunteers are required to go through 28-42 hours of training. Training sessions are held three times per year, typically in February, June, and September.

Direct service volunteers are needed for the following programs:

  • Youth program: support groups, Safe Pals mentoring program, Youth Leadership, Enrichment, Achievement and Development (LEAD) Program
  • Crisis intervention and Safehouse work
  • Legal Advocacy
  • Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART)
The time commitment for each program varies. The average time commitment is one-to-four-hours per week, and there is always the potential to do more. We ask that you commit to staying an active volunteer for at least 20 weeks.

NON-DIRECT SERVICE VOLUNTEERS
Non-direct service volunteers are needed for a variety of activities and programs that do not involve direct client client advocacy. Non-direct service volunteer opportunities depend on the needs of the agency at the time, but may include:
  • General clerical support at the Outreach Center
  • Yard and facilities work
  • Fundraisers (i.e. Fabric of Legacies Quilt, Anniversary Gala, Crossroads Marathon, etc.)
  • Awareness programs (e.g. tables/booths at local events, distribution of Crossroads' posters)
  • Organizing donation items at the Outreach Center & Safehouse
  • Special projects
BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
All volunteer applicants are asked to complete an application, provide three references, and set up an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator. Potential volunteers should also review the training dates and volunteer job positions. We are accepting volunteer applications through January 20, 2012. Volunteer training is capped at 20 people so early receipt of your application increases your likelihood of attending this training. For more information, please contact Laura Williams via email at volunteer_coordinator@crossroadssafehouse.org or phone at 970-530-2353.
